
Ásbrú Energy
Reykjanes has developed a vast amount of knowledge and experience in utilising green energy sources in the past few decades. A cluster of green energy is already in place which consists of companies that produce green energy, use green energy and improve energy utilisation. Ásbrú will be the setting for greatly increased operations of companies in the field of green energy. The energy cluster at Ásbrú will be unique on a global scale for its access to clean energy from the geo-thermal power plants in the area.
The Eldey entrepreneur centre, which is a joint project by Kadeco, the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Innovation Centre, specialises in green energy. The facilities at Eldey are 3.300 m2 and are divided into offices and workshops. In the workshops the companies will have the facilities and room to work on their inventions. Several promising new energy companies have already been given facilities at Eldey and more companies are on their way.
Iceland’s largest and most powerful power companies are among the owners of Keilir. Keilir School of Energy and Technology offers two multidisciplinary BSc. programs in co-operation with the University of Iceland, one in energy technology and the other in mechatronics. Students conduct their projects and research in a state of the art research centre in energy sciences at the School of Energy and Technology. Great emphasis is placed on educating independent students who possess true analytical skills, practical knowledge and the capability to create and develop new technical solutions. The goal of the school is that the students become valued and sought-after employees for both the Icelandic and international energy industry.
